Health issues

Before embarking on any exercise regime it is advisable to consult your doctor or practice nurse - they will be able to advise the best type of exercise for you, taking into account any health issues, previous illness or conditions you may have.

If you decide to join a gym the instructors should give you a brief health check before you start. This is normally a series of questions from which they can determine your suitability for the gym. This will only be a brief assessment and again if you have any concerns about your health or have any unexplained pains or ailments you should seek medical advice to ensure the gym is the right exercise for you. Don't forget there are many forms of exercise and there will be one that suits you.

Remember not to over-do things to begin with as this will result in strain and injury, which could cause long-term damage. To avoid this increase the amount and intensity of the exercise gradually.

Never exercise when you are ill or feeling off colour as this can often do more harm than good.
